Tuesday 7th September September '09(My First Lesson)

Today Was My First Time Of Doing The Diploma. I Couldn't Wait For This Day!
All the diploma students got together & had A meeting with the diploma teachers. They were explaining to us what the Diploma was all about & all the units. There were four main units dance, drama, media, art. I am doing art and dance.

In art today we just designed our folders.

In dance we had a little introduction. We discussed dance careers and dance history. In groups we did brainstorms on differnets dance careers such as peformer, producer, judge, choreographer & teacher.

After that the class got back together and made a timeline on dance styles.
Here Is What We Gathered Up:

1. COURT DANCING

- Started in the 1500's

- This dance is performed to kings & queens

- Court dancing is performed in formation

- The court dance is performed to the lute

2. BALLET

- Started in 1661

- Ballet began in Italy and France

- Ballet usues pointe work

- Ballet is performed to classical music

3. MUSICAL THEATRE

- Started in 1900's

- Musical theatre combines music, dance& drama

- Musical theatre is performed in films e.g Grease 7 in theatre's like the West End

4. LINDY HOP

- Started in 1920's, Harlon New York

- This dance uses energetic jumping movements

- Lindy hop is a socail dance

5. HIP HOP

- Started in the 1060's

- Hip Hop dance blends with African Rythms & with European structures

- This dance uses rap scratch & graffiti art

6. SALSA

- Recognized in the 1970's

- Performed to Cuban & Latin rythms

- Salsa is performed at festivals

- This dance use 150 beats per minute

Today I had fun finding out new things i never thought hip hop dance started recently ... KOOL =D
